Every year, Nu Alpha Kappa (NAK) Fraternity, Inc. continues to grow its membership. NAK’s membership has grown from eleven men at the Founding Chapter in San Luis Obispo to more than 3,800 members across 28 chapters in California, Colorado and Nevada. Since 1988, NAK has empowered and supported first-generation students to become the first in their families to attain a college degree.

As membership continues to grow, the financial challenges for operations also continue to increase. As a result, NAK is relying on its members and supporters for charitable giving contributions. With your donation, you can help improve NAK’s future and propel the organization to an era of transformative improvements for undergraduate and alumni members.

Interested in learning how you can give back to NAK? Here are nine ways you can support.

9 ways to give to Nu Alpha Kappa

  1. Employer charitable giving programs

If your employer participates in a charitable giving program, see if you can select NAK as the charity of choice. You may learn that your employer also offers an employer matching program, increasing your donation amount.

If an employer charitable giving program doesn’t exist at your workplace, consider asking your Human Resources team to see if there are plans to instill one in the near future or if there are ways your employer can match your donation when giving to NAK.

  1. Cash donations via one-time or recurring basis online

You can donate online via a one-time donation or recurring basis.

A one-time donation means that you intend to donate once whenever you like and can return to do so as many times as well.

A recurring donation is the easiest way to give and ensure your favorite projects receive ongoing support. You can cancel your recurring donation at any time

NAK will remind brothers throughout the year on special days and events, including Giving Tuesday, a planned NAK Giving Day and more. Stay tuned for information.

  1. Non-cash donations – services, software and more

Besides cash donations, NAK can also use non-cash donations. Supporters are invited to donate services, software (social media management, membership management, email, etc.) and pro bono services to help improve NAK’s infrastructure.

The following is not an exhaustive list but an idea of what can support NAK’s development:

  • Email marketing: MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Social media management: HootSuite, Social Pilot, etc.
  • Donor software: Bloomerang, etc.
  • Project management: Asana, Monday, etc.
  • Member management: Greek Track, etc.
  • Graphic design: Adobe Cloud, etc.
  • IT: Google Cloud, Used iPhones/Android phones, JetBrains Suite, etc.
  • Consulting/advice: nonprofit management, legal, crisis communications, strategy building, etc.
  1. As an alumni, you can purchase the NAK App

Recently, NAK launched its first mobile app. The app is free for undergraduates and available to alumni for a small one-time fee of $4.99. Revenues from the app will be reinvested into the fraternity to enhance our IT infrastructure.

  1. Join the NAK Alumni Association

Joining NAK’s Alumni Association (NAA) to leverage a robust professional network that facilitates strong connections and camaraderie among fraternity alumni. For $49 annually, you can gain membership access and unlock valuable NAA resources while contributing to significant philanthropic endeavors.

  1. Seek sponsorships opportunities

Throughout the year, NAK will host various programs for members. Your support in identifying sponsorship leads, in-kind donations and more, would improve the member experience while elevating costs for the organization. More information on sponsorship opportunities will be shared as these national events are promoted by NAK.

  1. Participating at national events

NAK’s national programs work to develop members in mind, body and culture. The time, cost and resources to make these programs happen can be financially burdensome. Your attendance and purchase of event tickets will ensure the success and growth of future programs.

  1. Setup estate planning benefiting the organization

If you’re interested in including NAK in your estate plans, please contact treasurer@nakinc.org. You will need to consult with an estate planning attorney to bequest NAK as a beneficiary. Legacy planned giving is selfless; you will create opportunities for our members that will last a lifetime.

  1. Volunteer your time

If donating funds is not a possibility right now, please consider donating your time. Throughout the year NAK will make calls for assistance. This may be to join the national board, planning committees or simply connecting the organization with resources and information. Any form of volunteerism is welcomed.

Benefits of giving

For many NAK members, NAK holds a special place in their hearts. The undergraduate NAK experience shaped them into the people and professionals they are today. However, it is important to remember NAK’s oath, “Once a NAK, always a NAK.” The oath is a reminder that being a NAK is not just during undergrad but for life.

When you donate to NAK, you’re lending a hand to improve the experiences of undergraduate brothers and improve operational efficiency and alumni engagement. NAK’s National Executive Board and Alumni Association are committed to improving the brotherhood experience so that it expands beyond the undergraduate experience. Your donation would support this.

In addition to supporting the mission of NAK, your planned gift may provide substantial tax and financial advantages. Please visit the IRS website to learn more about charitable contributions.

Lastly, giving generally makes supporters feel happy. It promotes social connection as your generosity is helping others. Giving also evokes gratitude – it can be a way of expressing gratitude or instilling gratitude in the recipient. It is a reminder that perhaps you were once in the benefactor’s “shoes” and by donating, you are paying it forward. And when supporters give, it can spur a ripple effect of generosity through our brotherhood.

NAK’s donation page allows supporters to select a program of their choice to donate to:

  • General Fund
  • National Leadership Development Conference Program
  • National Intake Summit Program
  • NAKfest
  • Omega Fund
  • NAK National Scholarships
  • Arreola Scholarship Awards

Don’t see a fund you wish to support? Let us know and we will add it.

The NAA was established in 2014 and oversees the National Scholarship, Arreola Family Award and Pride Legacy Fund. NAK and the NAA are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Donation receipts will generate a fully compliant tax receipt for donations under $250. For Tax ID, receipts for donations above $250 and additional charitable giving information, you can contact treasurer@nakinc.org. We thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
