On Oct. 22, 2024, the National Executive Board (NEB) of Nu Alpha Kappa (NAK) Fraternity, Inc. appointed Carlos Mendoza as the national president and chief executive officer (CEO) of NAK. 

The appointment came shortly after former NAK President and CEO Jason Navarro officially resigned from his role on Oct. 21. 

Navarro’s resignation

In his resignation to NAK’s NEB, Navarro stated the following: “In October 2023, I returned with hesitation as I felt I had already given all that I had. But I wanted to help bring back and strengthen our core. Mostly though, I returned to show that we can bring on quality young people without hazing.”

“I feel that stepping down from my position is in the best interest of both myself and the fraternity,” he said. “While this was not an easy decision, I believe it will allow new leadership to continue advancing the goals of NAK and its commitment to brotherhood, culture, and academic excellence.”

Navarro expressed his sincere gratitude to the brotherhood for the support, guidance, and camaraderie brothers have shared during his tenure. “I remain fully supportive of Nu Alpha Kappa and will continue to promote and advocate for the organization in any way I can,” he said. 

Navarro’s final action was recommending Mendoza as his replacement. NAK NEB convened on Oct. 22 and elected to have Mendoza complete the role for the current term until summer 2025. 

Meet NAK’s new president & CEO: Carlos Mendoza 

Mendoza is a dedicated professional committed to making a significant impact in his community. He graduated from Fresno State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology (2021) and a master’s degree in social work (2023). During his time at Fresno State, Mendoza demonstrated his leadership skills as the president of the Epsilon Chapter. 

Currently, Mendoza works for Tulare County Child Welfare Services and serves as the Outreach Coordinator for the Tulare County Human Trafficking Task Force. In his role, Mendoza is responsible, accountable, and hardworking; always striving to be a change agent and provide necessary resources to children and families, ensuring their safety and well-being. 

In his new role as national president of NAK, Mendoza will seek to improve, grow and sustain the organization. 

Mendoza previously served as national secretary since July 2024. During this time, he has improved NAK NEB communication, worked with the NAK National Alumni Association and led internal infrastructure improvements. 

“I am excited to work closely with all our chapters, being more engaging and hands-on,” he said. “I am collaborating with our National Alumni Association to rebuild and strengthen the connection between our alumni and collegiate chapters, planning a tour to visit all alumni associations either in-person or virtually.” 

Mendoza is also focused on fine-tuning the development of the NEB’s roles, working with NAK’s Associate Vice President (AVP) of Expansion to grow the organization and reach more schools. Another initiative Mendoza is leading is updating NAK NEB’s bylaws to better meet the organization’s needs. Finally, he is involved in educating undergraduates on how to better serve their chapters and communities, with a strong emphasis on philanthropy and community service in collaboration with NAK’s AVP of Philanthropy. 

“We are thankful for Jason’s contribution to NAK. His leadership has helped our organization rebuild,” Mendoza said. “As president and CEO of NAK, I am enthusiastic about representing our organization in the community as its leader and mentor, and networking with other organizations such as Greek organizations, community-based organizations, and businesses.”
