Recently, Nu Alpha Kappa (ΝΑΚ) Fraternity, Inc. sent two representatives to represent the brotherhood at an North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) event. NIC is a trade association representing 58 inter/national men’s fraternities. NAK has been a member of the NIC since 2009, and one of several organizations that identify as an American collegiate Latino-based fraternity.

The NIC member organizations also represent a diverse range of fraternity members and interfraternal interests, including fraternities founded for leadership and business interests as well as faith-based, multicultural, historically black, and new or emerging fraternities. A full list of member fraternities can be found here

Every year, the NIC hosts their annual meeting, the Educational Symposium. The 2024 NIC Educational Symposium was held Aug. 18-20, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event highlighted critical topics for fraternal professionals around advocacy, education, standards and insights to fraternal industry practices. Two NAK leaders from the National Executive Board (NEB) were able to represent the fraternity.

NAK leaders networked with other Latino and multicultural organizations, including Omega Delta Phi, Phi Iota Alpha, and Kappa Alpha Psi.

NAK’s former National Secretary & Chief Information Officer, now National President & CEO, Carlos Mendoza and Associate Vice President of Expansion & Recruitment Efrain Alanis were in attendance. NAK leaders were also able to connect with other Latino fraternal organizations, including leaders from Omega Delta Phi, Phi Iota Alpha and Kappa Alpha Psi. Topics discussed included retention in membership, working with campuses, understanding the challenges of high school and college male students, archiving and succession planning, policy development, and more.

“Attending NIC’s annual conference allowed us to learn best practices other organizations are implementing for their members,” said NAK President Mendoza. “NAK is entering a transformation era and in order for us to continue to meet our members’ demand, we need to adapt. It is critical that we implement new changes and inspire our members to grow with us.”

NAK remains committed to the well being of its members and the community as a whole. By attending events like NIC’s Educational Symposium, NAK leadership aims to learn and implement best practices learned from fraternal organizations. Ongoing education and training is a strong belief for NAK’s NEB and the goal is to share this knowledge and experience with undergraduate chapter members.
