SAN JOSE, CALIF.  – The alumni brothers of Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc. (NAK) raised funds through their alumni network this past weekend at Chacho’s Restaurant in San Jose, and are giving $1,000 back to the local community in the form of backpacks filled with school supplies to low-income students.

The fundraising event was hosted on the eve of the fraternity’s 27th annual NAKfest (NAKfest is NAK’s signature event. It is the annual family reunion of brotherhood where Alumni and undergraduates reconnect. Undergraduates gain motivation to pursue greater success in community service and campus participation).

“NAK alumni care deeply about our communities of which low-income students reside in,” said Angel Barajas, CEO of the NAK National Alumni Association. “Upwards of 90% of our alumni brothers come from a disadvantaged background, so, we understand that investing in our youth is an investment in our community.”

The event brought together professionals and civic leaders who are members of the fraternity. CEO, and founder of Fúchilia Fresheners, Ruben Dario Villa, a title sponsor of the event stated, “being able to leverage our business community to directly impact our schools is a tremendous partnership that we will continue to build upon. ”

Another title sponsor was Moet Hennessy, who graciously donated a Privilege Toast to the event.

A school will be selected by July 2015 and $1,000 worth of backpacks along with school supplies will be given to students on the 1st day of school for fall 2015.
