This last year has been a challenging year for many during the pandemic.   However,  these challenging times have also allowed the Fraternity to work in different ways (from home) and to reach a broader audience by means of Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and social media advances.    These advances, although challenging, have allowed the Fraternity to continue operating without having to meet in person.

To continue on the advances gained from the pandemic,  my goals are as follows:

  1.  To create a public relations committee to help with crafting a public relations manual that is specific to the needs of NAK.
  2. To create a communication handbook and social media guidelines that all chapters can use when posting to social media.
  3. To create guidelines for the AVP position that can be passed onto the next person.
  4. Craft template letters for each chapter to help expedite responses to other organization related to sexual assault, etc.

As many of these documents listed are in draft form, I will need your help.  So, If you are interested in being part of a Public Relations Committee, please email me pr@nakinc.org or nvp-business@nakinc.org .

In regard to Campus Relations, Nu Alpha Kappa is working on creating a list of requirements at each respective university to ensure that each chapter is able to meet university requirements related to the minimum number of active brothers required at each university.   Using this list, we will work with Greek Life Offices  to ensure that all chapters are recognized by their respective universities regardless of the number of brothers that are active in the chapter.

Finally, Nu Alpha Kappa has worked with Greek Life Offices and Chapter Presidents at the Beta and Omicron Chapter in the month of April to resolve allegations related to hazing and sexual assault. Although the allegations were unfounded and addressed at both chapters, it is very important that these types of issues get reported to the NEB as soon as possible. This will help the National Board respond to incidents in a timely manner and allow us to address the incident as quickly as possible.

In moving forward to the months ahead,  I look forward to building a healthy relationship with all our respective chapters and meeting with each and every president, so I can understand your needs.

Be safe out there, and continue to abide by NAK and University Guidelines as we near the end of the semester and the pandemic (hopefully).

In brotherhood,

Steven Valdez
